Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX is seeking a Monitor Technician (PRN) for nights to provide continuous electrocardiographic monitoring and related support. The role requires basic orientation to telemetry and the ability to communicate clearly with nursing staff and physicians.

Responsibilities include initiating and supervising ECG monitoring, maintaining surveillance of ECG waveforms, and ensuring accurate data entry and equipment operation. CPR/BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have current CPR or BLS competency training.
• Employee will be required to pass competencies for this position.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English required.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
• Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
• Initiates electro cardio graphic monitoring when a physician’s order is received and validated.
• Maintains continuous surveillance of EKG wave forms, with notification of responsible nursing personnel for dysrhythmia.
• Discontinues telemetry when ordered.
• Performs unit support duties as assigned, to include such activities as answering the telephone, responding to patient call system, responding to family and visitor requests, and maintaining a neat and orderly work environment.
• Utilizes knowledge of electro cardio graphic monitoring in the continuous surveillance of the telemetry patients, with accurate interpretation of rhythm.
• Utilizes computer system accurately, in entering required data for telemetry monitoring.
• Monitors equipment for optimum effectiveness, with reporting of any problem with equipment to the appropriate supervise
• Assists with the orientation of new employees.
• Other duties as assigned.
