Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command seeks a Telecommunications Specialist to oversee communications systems within the Executive Support Staff at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

You will coordinate specialized systems, act as a technical expert on committees, and support emergency communications planning with federal and local authorities. The role requires ensuring proper operation of government radio equipment and overseeing power backup for critical operations.

Qualifications

• Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• Experience applying wide range of communications and electronics concepts, principles and practices to accomplish the work assigned.
• Experience evaluating inter-relationships between existing electronic and communication equipment, circuits, automated switches, operating protocols and characteristics and equipment control systems.
• Experience planning and implementing electronic and communications installation involving a variety of available equipment, services, security methods and operating techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide telecommunications program oversight, using sound technical knowledge relative to electronics and communications systems.
• Coordinate requests and requirements for specialized communication systems, radios, access control systems, and intrusion detection systems.
• Serve as the technical expert on committees to identify and resolve electronic and communications issues.
• Coordinate emergency communications planning and operations with other services and agencies.
• Install, groom, and maintain backup power to support operations during power loss.
• Receive and verify proper operation of government-owned radio equipment to ensure compliance with governing instructions.
