Job description

Telecommunications Design Engineer — Data Centers & Mission-Critical Facilities (Remote)

Design the telecom infrastructure that keeps data centers connected.

As a Telecommunications Design Engineer at Critical Facility Group, you'll design telecom and structured cabling systems for data centers and other mission-critical facilities, taking projects from early design through construction. You'll build 3D models in Revit, develop cable pathway and pathway-support designs, and coordinate closely with electrical, mechanical, and architectural teams on the same project.

You'll also see your designs move into the field. You'll review contractor submittals and RFIs, participate in site visits and construction inspections, and work with project teams to resolve issues as things get built.

The Opportunity

This role fits an engineer with real telecom design experience in data centers or other mission-critical environments, ready to own scope rather than execute someone else's drawings. You'll be involved throughout a project's life — not just producing one section of a drawing set — and see how your designs are coordinated, constructed, and ultimately operate in the field.

What You'll Do
  • Design structured cabling, fiber, and carrier circuit infrastructure using Revit
  • Develop pathway and space designs — cable trays, conduit routing, telecom rooms — coordinated with other disciplines
  • Prepare telecom construction documents, including riser diagrams, rack elevations, and equipment schedules
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and proposed change orders
  • Conduct site visits and inspections during construction, including preparing punch lists and representing the owner on-site
  • Prepare technical reports and presentation drawings, and present both internally and to clients
  • Coordinate telecom designs with electrical, mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines
  • Manage engineering design projects from concept through completion
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of telecom design experience in data center, colocation, or other mission-critical environments
  • Hands-on Revit experience is required
  • Working knowledge of structured cabling standards (BICSI), fiber, and carrier circuit design
  • RCDD or CCNA is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and effective communication with project teams
Why Critical Facility Group

We're a remote-first team, and the people on it bring years of experience in data center design, construction, and operations. This role is part of bringing telecom design in-house as a core discipline, not an outsourced afterthought — you’ll have real say in how the systems get designed. As you take on more complex work, you’ll have real opportunities to grow toward leadership.

Critical Facility Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
