The base salary range for this position is $73,256 to $95,233 depending on experience and location.

Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Mid-level resource providing Tier-2 support for operational support, maintenance, and repair of transport network equipment interfacing with IT, SCADA Communications, Protection and Control, and Energy Management System work centers. Requires significant experience and adaptability to new technologies.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES

• Provide skills in OSG Telecommunication infrastructure issues and remediation. Responsible for passing knowledge, creating training materials.
• Collaborate with Engineering team to ensure designs meet lifecycle and maintainability standards.
• Support and troubleshoot infrastructure including SCADA Telecommunications, AMI Communications, DWDM, Fiber-Optic, IP-based telecom, Wireline, and Telco equipment.
• Assist in other areas such as Cellular/Wireless, dispatch radio systems, maintenance, and project planning.
• Field operation and travel outside NYSEG territory up to 70%, including overnight and extended trips.
• Provide 24/7 support, including storm response and on-call rotation.
• Troubleshoot, program, test, repair, and replace telecommunication devices across all locations.
• Provide leadership as a role model and contributor, without supervisory responsibilities.
• Assist in planning budgets, staffing, and work allocations.
• Perform other duties as required.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support IP and Ethernet-based telecommunications, acting as a central contact point.
• Have advanced knowledge of cellular and wireless technologies (WiFi, LTE, Microwave).
• Understand and maintain TDM and wireline circuits, interacting with carriers and documenting installations.
• Manage, troubleshoot, and document existing systems including Fiber, Ethernet, SONET, TDM, wireless, and cellular.
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 60 lbs, bending, reaching, standing, and wearing PPE, with safety training and certification.
• Pass background checks, drug tests, and obtain certifications for access as per NERC, FERC, and NGA standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

ENVIRONMENT AND EQUIPMENT

Systems include Layer 2 Ethernet, Layer 3 Routing, Fiber Optic, WDM, TDM, Radio systems, Cellular infrastructure, Power systems, AMI, and others.

Maintenance

• Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules.
• Monitor system performance metrics.
• Coordinate and perform inspections and maintenance activities.

Repair

• Provide 24/7 repair support, including dispatch and contractor coordination.
• Manage system restoration efforts during storms and major events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or 2-4 years of relevant experience; or high school diploma with 4-8 years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of IP routing, switching, fiber, SONET, radio, Ethernet, and serial systems.
• Familiarity with standards, power systems, and grounding.
