Brooksource is seeking a Telecom Field Technician for our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Wilmington, NC.

The role covers installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of a wide range of telecom equipment and systems across Fiber, Microwave, PBX, wireless, and data networks. Travel is extensive, with potential full-time conversion after 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment and systems for client and subsidiaries.
• Work with Fiber Optics, Microwave, Telephone Systems, Wireless, Data Networks, and grounding equipment.
• Travel daily around Wilmington metro area; operate in varying facilities including power plants and office buildings.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks in all weather conditions; overtime and weekend work may be required.

• 1-year contract with opportunity for extension or full-time conversion
• Fully on-site position with daily travel around Wilmington metropolitan area

Brooksource is searching for a Telecom Field Technician to join our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Wilmington, NC. The Telecom Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of various types of Telecommunications equipment and systems for our client and its subsidiaries.

Equipment/Systems include Fiber Optics, Microwave (SONET, DWDM, DS0 up to OC-192), Telephone Systems & Associated Physical Infrastructure (PBXs, subscriber sets, wiring, Network Interfaces), Wireless Systems (Two-way radio, paging, SCADA, siren control systems), Data Network, and common equipment including Antenna Networks (Towers, feedlines, combiners, duplexers), Power Equipment (emergency generators, batteries, inverters, UPS, transfer panels) and Grounding systems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-year degree in Electronics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering (required)

• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Two or more years’ previous work experience.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders and steps in all types of facilities including Power plants, office buildings, and remote sites.
• Outside work required in all types of weather.
• Regular overtime and weekend work, with extensive travel, mainly in an assigned company vehicle, with occasional flights on commercial airline.
• Able to obtain DOT drivers health card
• Regular second shift and call-out duties

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2+ years’ experience in the installation/maintenance of telecommunication networks and equipment.
• Understanding of Data, Fiber Optics, Microwave, Wireless, and Voice Networks and proven ability to maintain and install these systems and associated equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to use specialized test equipment (OTDR, Spectrum Analyzer, RF Service Monitor, Optical Power and Source Meters, Battery Load Bank, Battery Measurement, DS1/DS3 Test Sets)
• 2-3 years’ prior experience splicing fiber using both mechanical or fusion splicing equipment.
