Brooksource is hiring a Telecom Technician to support a Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client across telecommunications infrastructure throughout the Raleigh area.

This role is responsible for installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical telecom systems including fiber optics, microwave networks, telephone systems, wireless communications, data networks, power equipment, and associated infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in electronics or related field.
  • 2+ years in telecommunications or related technical experience.
  • Experience installing, programming, testing, and maintaining telecom systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities across telecom infrastructure.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial/outdoor environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and support overtime and on-call schedules.
  • DOT driver health card eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Install, program, test, and maintain telecom equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair telecom infrastructure and related hardware.
  • Maintain power and support equipment including generators and UPS systems.
  • Utilize testing tools such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, and optical meters.
  • Perform fiber splicing and work safely in various environments.
  • Travel extensively and work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed.

Job description

  • Fully on-site position with daily travel around Raleigh metropolitan area
  • 1-year contract with opportunity for extension or full-time hire
  • W-2 only. No Corp-to-Corp or 1099 arrangements.

Brooksource is hiring a Telecom Technician to support our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client across telecommunications infrastructure throughout the Raleigh area. This role is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical telecom systems including fiber optics, microwave networks, telephone systems, wireless communications, data networks, power equipment, and associated infrastructure.

This is a hands-on field position that requires extensive travel throughout the region, work in a variety of environments including power plants and remote sites, and participation in overtime, weekend, second-shift, and call-out schedules as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Install, program, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment and systems including fiber optics, microwave systems (SONET, DWDM, DS0 through OC-192), telephone systems, wireless communications systems, and data networks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair telecom infrastructure including PBXs, subscriber sets, wiring, network interfaces, antenna systems, feedlines, duplexers, combiners, and associated hardware.
  • Maintain power and support equipment including emergency generators, batteries, inverters, UPS systems, transfer panels, and grounding systems.
  • Utilize specialized testing tools such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, RF service monitors, optical power meters, battery load banks, and DS1/DS3 test equipment.
  • Perform both mechanical and fusion fiber splicing activities.
  • Work safely in power plants, office facilities, remote sites, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel extensively using company vehicles with occasional commercial air travel requirements.
  • Participate in overtime, weekend work, second-shift assignments, and on-call/call-out responsibilities.
  • Maintain required certifications and qualifications, including eligibility for a DOT driver health card.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders while working independently with minimal supervision.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (MUST-HAVES):
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of telecommunications or related technical experience.
  • Experience installing, programming, testing, and maintaining telecom systems including fiber optic, microwave, telephone, wireless, and data network technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities across telecom infrastructure and equipment.
  • Experience using telecom testing equipment such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, RF service monitors, optical power meters, battery testing equipment, and DS1/DS3 test sets.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in industrial and outdoor environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and support overtime, weekend, second-shift, and on-call work schedules.
  • Eligibility to obtain a DOT driver health card.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE-TO-HAVES):
  • Experience with mechanical and fusion fiber splicing.
  • 10+ years of telecom installation, maintenance, or field technician experience.
  • Previous experience supporting utility, energy, or critical infrastructure environments.
