Job summary

GCI Communication Corp. is seeking a Field Service Technician II to install, service, and troubleshoot telecom services in customers’ homes and business properties across Alaska. The role includes RF, analog, microwave, fiber optic, and related systems, with emphasis on safety and reliable operation.

You will work alongside senior techs, assist with service orders, and participate in preventive maintenance while ensuring high-quality customer interactions in remote environments such as Bethel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years in a technical telecom role or related background.
• Depending on location may require six (6) months experience living in an arctic environment.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, and troubleshoot telecom equipment from the tap or demark location to the customer’s home or office.
• Perform routine service and maintenance on RF, analog, microwave, fiber optic, and AC/DC components.
• Refer problems between demark and headend or distribution center to network technicians.
• Perform disconnects, reconnects, and relocate services; replace worn components and faulty connections.
• Use test equipment to measure and adjust signal strength for optimum reception.
• Conduct preventive or corrective maintenance including underground cable locates, outages, rewiring, and upgrades.
• Communicate with customers on-site and present additional service offerings.
• Support senior technicians and mentor junior technicians with install, test, and repair of orders.
• Ensure basic vehicle maintenance, truck stock, and adherence to safety policies.
