Job summary

Point Broadband in Dawsonville, GA is seeking a Field Service Technician to install and service customer equipment, manage inventory and perform network-related tasks at customer sites. The role includes in-house training for those with basic technical aptitude and a clean driving record.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, 1–2 years in broadband or related field, basic computer skills, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Able to present technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Able to work independently.
• Able to accurately measure distances using tapes and other measuring devices.
• Able to use test equipment including signal level meter, leakage detector, volt OHM meter, sweep receiver, underground locator and TDR.
• Able to accurately maintain records, logs, reports, work orders, etc.
• Able to operate office equipment, fax, copier, etc.
• Able to handle escalations and time-critical issues.
• Able to read street maps.
• Able to work flexible hours as required, including evenings, weekends and on-call shifts.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform new connects, reconnects, disconnects, upgrades, downgrades and change-of-service.
• Install and relocate outlets.
• Install or remove converters and cable modems.
• Install interior and exterior wiring.
• Connect peripheral equipment.
• Train customers on proper use of equipment.
• Monitor, repair and record system performance and leakage.
• Ensure proper signal levels and picture quality.
• Identify causes of degradation and troubleshoot from consumer device to tap.
• Troubleshoot, repair and replace components from tap to consumer device.
• Terminate unused ports and secure pedestals for system security.
• Take voltage measurements.
• Understand/apply FCC and NESC standards.
• Report incidents of noncompliance.
• Provide superior customer service.
• Complete tasks to company quality standards.
• Maintain professional appearance and behavior.
• Maintain excellent attendance.
• Manage vehicle and tool inventory and maintenance.
• Replace defective tap plates and taps.
• Troubleshoot issues between customer equipment and RF.
• Troubleshoot RF, AC, DC portions for transmission levels and interference.
• Balance, align and adjust components used to amplify/process signals.
• Perform underground and aerial CATV construction duties.
• Network troubleshoot including ping, traceroute, speed test.
• Install power supply and conduct field engineering walkouts.
• Perform other duties including training other employees.
