Job summary

YMCA of Honolulu is seeking Engagement Specialists to design and lead teen-focused after-school clubs for grades 6-12. You will create engaging activities aligned with teen interests and promote youth voice, inclusion, and safety within a welcoming environment.

You will collaborate with YMCA leadership and families to deliver high-quality programs, mentor staff, and contribute new ideas. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a commitment to youth development are essential.

Qualifications

• 6 months+ experience facilitating instruction with youth requiring academic intervention.
• General youth programs group or classroom management.
• Ability to initiate and implement engaging academic activities and promote healthy studying habits.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate HIDOE curriculum.
• Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills and organization.
• Understanding of working with teens, group management and group work.
• Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways.
• Exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
• Collaborative and flexible mindset to elevate youth voice and provide opportunities.
• Lead by example with professionalism and competency.
• Ability to develop positive relationships across backgrounds.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows 10+, Canva.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive work/learning environment for staff and participants.
• Support program improvement to ensure positive experiences and youth growth.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff.
• Establish and maintain relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Assist in supervision and mentorship of junior staff.
• Research and develop new programs and engagement methods for teen development.
• Contribute ideas and participate in staff meetings for program improvements.
• Coordinate events and activities to promote student engagement and motivation.
• Facilitate programming that invites exploration and inclusive teen participation.
• Demonstrate YMCA mission, values, policies, and standards.
