Job summary

YMCA of Honolulu is seeking a Teen Leader to supervise after-school activities, mentor middle and high school youth, and help plan engaging programs aligned with the YMCA model.

You will implement student-centered clubs, support academic and career exploration, and foster inclusion and leadership development. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred and opportunities for training are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, and college/career readiness.
• Skilled in group/classroom management with understanding of teen development and group dynamics.
• Demonstrates mature judgment, sound decision-making, and ability to lead by example.
• Collaborative and flexible mindset valuing youth voice and supporting areas beyond personal expertise.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; well-organized and able to multitask in a dynamic environment.
• Culturally responsive and experienced with diverse populations and building authentic relationships.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel; familiarity with PowerPoint/Publisher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead after-school activities, including physical education, community time, college/career exploration, and academic support.
• Assist Site Coordinators and Youth Directors in program operation and supervision.
• Develop student-centered clubs and programs promoting cultural understanding and leadership.
• Attend staff meetings and training; open to feedback and training from others.
• Maintain facilities, equipment, and supplies at the site in good order.
• Provide individualized support and feedback to ensure student success.
• Participate in professional development for youth development and program management.
• Suggest new ideas and participate in program improvements.
