The Albemarle County Public Schools Department of Technology is actively recruiting a Technology Support Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support for personal computers, iPads, peripherals, and other related technology equipment; provide software and network connectivity support to promote the effective use of technology by students, administrators, and instructional staff. This individual facilitates the effective operation of all types of technology in the building and will work with multiple school sites in a technology‑rich environment. Excellent communication skills and technical knowledge are required.
Considerable functional knowledge with excellent interpersonal and technical skills. Ability to manage a complex workload across multiple sites; diagnose and resolve complex issues with a variety of technology hardware and software platforms; engage in creative and productive problem solving in classrooms, libraries, and service areas. Must exhibit empathy, attention to detail, commitment to tasks, customer‑centric service delivery, proactive communication, collaboration with teachers and staff, support users at various technical levels, and proper documentation of incidents and issues.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or a combination of education, technical certifications, and related work experience. Strong communication and organizational skills; strong working knowledge of Active Directory, Windows 10 client environment, MAC, and Apple iOS required. Demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills quickly and solve complex technical problems effectively. Appropriate A+ and vendor certifications preferred. Must hold or be eligible to obtain relevant brand certifications and routinely apply such knowledge in a complex educational environment. The successful TSS demonstrates exceptional customer service across a variety of user groups. Special requirement: possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Work typically involves sitting, walking, and standing, with occasional bending, lifting, and carrying items. May require climbing ladders up to 16 feet and working in tight and confined spaces. Conditions may be dusty and dirty with constant low‑level noise. Frequent handling of small fragile components and large components up to 50 pounds. Continuous telephone communication required. Regular use of computers, printers, and peripherals. Frequent vehicle operation for travel within the School Division. Interactions are generally cooperative, requiring tact and diplomacy. Time‑critical tasks may arise to meet organizational deadlines. Ability to work in small closed areas without heating or air conditioning and with electrical equipment is required.
