Job summary

Granville County Schools GCPS Technology Dept. in Oxford, North Carolina seeks a Technology Support Specialist to install, troubleshoot, and repair technology in schools and offices.

Job Description

This position is responsible for installing requested technology‑related equipment in school and office locations, troubleshooting equipment problems, and repairing or arranging for the repair of faulty equipment. Work involves technical support and expertise concerning various types of technology‑related hardware and software. The position also involves training employees in the use of technology and requires using an online support ticket system to communicate, track, and document tasks. Professionalism and collaboration with co‑workers, school administrators, and supervisors are essential.

Minimum Qualifications: Education / Training
  • Minimum of 2‑year college degree or graduation from a technical school preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience operating Apple OSX/iOS and/or PC computer hardware and software, including operating systems and common applications.
  • Minimum one year of experience and/or equivalent training operating computers and software in a networked environment.
  • Understands FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA Compliance.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle for use during work hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs district‑approved hardware, software, peripherals, and other related technology tools.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs approved technology in schools and district facilities.
  • Maintains accurate reporting of work performed using the district‑approved ticket tracking system.
  • Trains users on the use of technology.
  • Installs and sets up educational and administrative software for users.
  • Distributes and coordinates the rollout of student and staff devices within the schools.
  • Coordinates the collection and upgrades to student and staff devices at the end of each school year.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Technology or the Technology Project Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and common software applications.
  • Working knowledge of common computer and device operating systems.
  • General knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and convey technical information to a non‑technical audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Possess an operating knowledge of network test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to systematically determine the source of technology‑related problems and take appropriate actions.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments and communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $3,658 to $5,662 Per Month
