Job summary

Zartis is seeking a Technology Lead / Architect to guide a distributed team building AI-powered classifieds platforms on Google Cloud. You will own the technical direction, stay hands-on, and align with product and UX to deliver scalable services across microservices and legacy systems.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in backend engineering, Java expertise, and experience leading technical teams while delivering production-grade solutions in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 7 years backend engineering experience with hands-on Java experience.
• Proven expertise with Java, Spring or Dropwizard.
• Experience designing and running microservices, and integrating with monoliths.
• Experience with MySQL and MongoDB.
• Hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Firestore, Cloud Armor).
• Significant experience building AI-powered products and leading teams.
• Previous Tech Lead or Architect role while remaining hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and architecture of the squad's products from experiments to production.
• Stay hands-on: write code and review PRs.
• Design services for GCP serverless infrastructure (Cloud Run).
• Integrate new products with client landscape (microservices and monolith).
• Guide engineers, set technical standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Manager and UX Designer to turn ideas into testable products.
• Help build AI-powered features balancing speed, reliability, and security.

We are looking for a Technology Lead / Architect to work on a project in the online marketplaces industry.

The project:

You will be part of a distributed team developing new technologies to solve real business problems, they are building a new team that runs classifieds platforms across several markets (AI-driven platforms). The team will build new experimental products that use AI, working closely with the client's existing engineering ecosystem.

We are looking for someone with good communication skills, ideally with experience making decisions, being proactive, used to building software from scratch, and with good attention to detail.

What you will do:

• Own the technical direction and architecture of the squad's products, from early experiments through to production.
• Stay hands-on: write code, review pull requests and build core components alongside the team.
• Design services that run on GCP serverless infrastructure (Cloud Run) and make good use of GCP managed services.
• Integrate new products with the client's existing landscape, which is mostly microservices plus a remaining monolith.
• Guide and support engineers of mixed seniority, setting technical standards and good engineering practices.
• Work closely with the Product Manager and UX Designer to turn ideas into technically sound, testable products.
• Help the team build AI-powered features responsibly, balancing speed of experimentation with reliability and security.

What you will bring:

• 7 years of backend engineering experience, with deep, hands-on expertise in Java.
• Strong experience with Spring and/or Dropwizard frameworks.
• Proven experience designing and running microservices architectures, and comfort working alongside legacy/monolithic systems.
• Experience with MySQL and MongoDB.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, ideally Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Firestore and Cloud Armor (strong experience on another major cloud may be considered).
• Significant experience building AI-powered products, and genuine enthusiasm for working at the AI frontier.
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Architect while remaining hands-on.

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with the frontend stack: React, Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL and the BFF pattern.
• Experience setting up a new team or product from scratch.
