Job Summary

The Technology & Facilities Support Specialist (PRN) provides on-call, part-time support for the Sheriff's Office with an expected work emphasis of approximately 80% information technology and 20% building and grounds support. The position assists with the reliable operation, maintenance, security, and troubleshooting of technology systems; supports law-enforcement hardware, software, networks, communications, and camera systems; and performs common facilities-support duties as operational needs require. The position must be capable of working independently, responding to priority needs, and performing basic electrical, low-voltage, cabling, camera-installation, and general maintenance tasks within the employee's training and applicable safety requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

The following duties are typical for this classification. • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure and connected systems, including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless equipment, and related devices.
• Monitor network and system performance and assist in resolving outages, connectivity problems, and reliability issues in a timely manner.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for deputies, dispatchers, corrections personnel, and administrative staff, including hardware, software, account, printing, peripheral, and network issues.
• Assist with the life cycle of IT assets, including desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices, monitors, and related peripherals; maintain accurate inventories of equipment and software licenses.
• Install, upgrade, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, endpoint software, and other approved technology used by the Sheriff's Office.
• Administer and support mobile data terminals (MDTs), mobile communication devices, and related technology installed in patrol and other agency vehicles.
• Install, mount, cable, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot security cameras, fixed camera systems, body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, and related video systems and components.
• Perform structured cabling and low-voltage installation work, including routing and terminating data cable and supporting network, camera, communications, access-control, and related systems.
• Assist with cybersecurity controls and practices, including firewalls, antivirus/endpoint protection, access controls, account security, patching, backups, and other safeguards as directed.
• Perform and verify regular data backups and assist with disaster-recovery preparedness and restoration activities.
• Follow CJIS security requirements and other applicable federal, state, County, and Sheriff's Office technology policies and procedures.
• Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of telecommunications, VOIP, phones, and related communications systems.
• Provide basic staff instruction on proper use of hardware, software, mobile systems, cameras, and security best practices.
• Document work performed, configurations, equipment assignments, repairs, and significant technology issues as directed.
• Perform common building-maintenance support tasks as needed, including minor repairs, assembly, replacement of fixtures or hardware, basic carpentry, minor plumbing tasks, and other routine facility work within the employee's capabilities.
• Use basic electrical experience to assist with minor electrical and electronic troubleshooting, lighting, low-voltage systems, data/communication wiring, and related installations. Work requiring a licensed electrician shall be referred or coordinated as appropriate.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and routine inspection of facilities, tools, equipment, and work areas to help keep County facilities safe and operational.
• Assist with transporting, staging, installing, or removing equipment and supplies; support facility projects and other building-and-grounds tasks as assigned, which may include limited outdoor work or weather-related facility support.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects, training, meetings, backup support, and tasks necessary to meet the operational needs of the Sheriff's Office and County.

Experience & Education

• Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED is required. College coursework, technical training, certifications, or an associate/bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, networking, cybersecurity, electronics, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant certifications and demonstrated hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Prior experience in IT support, systems administration, network support, law-enforcement technology, or a similar technical role is strongly preferred.
• Basic electrical experience is required, including safe use of common electrical tools and familiarity with basic circuits, wiring, fixtures, and low-voltage systems.
• Experience installing and troubleshooting camera systems is required; experience with security, IP, body-worn, or in-car camera systems is preferred.
• Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check and satisfy all requirements for access to criminal-justice information systems.
• Must obtain and maintain CJIS certification as required by assignment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

PRN Scheduling / Availability

This is a PRN, part-time-as-necessary position. Work will be scheduled or requested based on operational need and is not guaranteed on a fixed weekly schedule. When the employee is called in or scheduled to work, the assignment will not be for fewer than eight (8) hours in that workday. The employee may be asked to respond to priority technology or facility needs with reasonable notice consistent with PRN status.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Working knowledge of Windows-based desktop and server environments, user accounts, Active Directory or comparable directory services, and common business applications.
• Working knowledge of networking concepts and administration, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, switching, routing, wireless networking, and basic firewall concepts.
• Understanding of cybersecurity best practices, access controls, endpoint protection, backups, patching, and secure handling of sensitive information.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network, camera, cabling, communications, and peripheral issues using logical diagnostic methods.
• Familiarity with law-enforcement-specific technology such as CAD/RMS, MDTs, dispatch systems, body-worn cameras, in-car video, access control, or evidence systems is highly desirable.
• Ability to install and service cameras and related cabling, mounts, power/low-voltage connections, network connections, and supporting components.
• Basic knowledge of electrical safety, minor electrical troubleshooting, low-voltage wiring, and safe use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform routine building-maintenance tasks safely, recognize when work is outside the employee's expertise, and coordinate or refer specialized work appropriately.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while prioritizing urgent operational needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and interact professionally with County employees, officials, vendors, contractors, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee may be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; work from ladders; pull cable; move equipment; and work in confined or elevated locations. The employee must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds and safely move heavier equipment with assistance or appropriate equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may occur in offices, dispatch areas, corrections facilities, patrol vehicles, equipment rooms, ceilings, mechanical or utility spaces, and outdoor areas. The employee may be exposed to dust, noise, weather, electrical hazards, power tools, and other conditions associated with technology and facility work.
