  • Experience supervising employees and coordinating technology projects.
  • Experience in a K–12 educational environment is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while responding effectively to urgent technology needs.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, network administration, device management, cloud-based systems, and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Ability to work with administrators, teachers, staff, vendors, and community partners.

Position: Director of Technology Contract: 12-Month, Full-Time Position Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations Salary Range: $72,000–$127,861, dependent upon education, experience, and qualifications Benefits: District benefits package provided in accordance with Board policy and applicable employment agreements.

Position Summary

Fort Scott USD 234 is seeking a qualified and service-oriented Director of Technology to provide leadership and oversight for the District's technology systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, devices, and technical support services. The Director of Technology works collaboratively with district and building administrators, instructional staff, support staff, and outside vendors to ensure technology resources are reliable, secure, efficient, and aligned with the educational and operational needs of the District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Network & Infrastructure: Oversee and maintain reliable, secure, and efficient wired and wireless networks, internet connectivity, servers, telecommunications, and other technology infrastructure across all district facilities.
  • Device Management: Manage district technology assets, including student and staff computers, Chromebooks, mobile devices, peripherals, and related hardware; coordinate deployment, inventory, replacement, updates, and lifecycle planning.
  • Technical Support: Supervise and coordinate district technology support services, including help desk/ticketing systems, troubleshooting, repairs, and timely response to staff and student technology needs.
  • Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Develop and maintain appropriate cybersecurity practices, access controls, user accounts, domain policies, backups, filtering, monitoring, and other safeguards designed to protect district systems and data.
  • Technology Planning: Assist district administration in developing short- and long-term technology plans, including equipment replacement schedules, infrastructure improvements, budgeting, purchasing, and implementation of new technologies.
  • Systems Administration: Oversee district technology platforms, applications, user accounts, software licensing, integrations, and other technology-related systems.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned technology personnel and coordinate department responsibilities, priorities, and projects.
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Coordinate with technology vendors, service providers, consultants, and other partners; assist with purchasing, bids, contracts, and evaluation of technology products and services.
  • Policies & Compliance: Assist with the development and implementation of district technology procedures, acceptable-use expectations, cybersecurity practices, student data privacy requirements, and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Emergency & Operational Support: Provide leadership and technical response when technology issues impact district operations, safety, communications, or instructional services.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with administrators and staff to identify technology needs and support effective use of district technology resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
Qualifications

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, educational technology, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience managing networks, technology infrastructure, devices, cybersecurity, and technical support operations.
  • Experience supervising employees and/or coordinating technology projects preferred.
  • Experience in a K–12 educational environment is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while responding effectively to urgent technology needs.
  • Knowledge of current cybersecurity practices, network administration, device management, cloud-based systems, and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, vendors, and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive district and student information.
Terms of Employment

This is a 12-month, full-time position . Salary will be determined based upon education, experience, qualifications, and the District's approved compensation structure, with an anticipated salary range of $72,000–$127,861 .

Employment is subject to applicable Fort Scott USD 234 Board of Education policies and procedures.
