Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Director of Development for the Technology Sector to manage a major gifts portfolio and cultivate relationships with technology executives, founders, investors, and industry leaders. The role collaborates with central development and program partners to align donor interests with institutional priorities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in development, major-gift fundraising, or related fields.
Experience building relationships with high-net-worth individuals and securing significant commitments.
Experience translating institutional priorities into philanthropic opportunities.
Proficiency with CRM systems.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of approximately 100–150 prospective donors with emphasis on major gifts.
Develop strategies for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Conduct donor visits, in person and virtual, to meet performance expectations.
Prepare and present compelling philanthropic proposals aligned with university priorities.
Solicit outright, multi-year, planned, and complex gifts in collaboration with colleagues.
Maintain a pipeline of donors and achieve fundraising and activity goals.
Build relationships with alumni and friends across technology and entrepreneurship networks.
