Job summary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $106,100 to $125,000. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

Evaluate intellectual property disclosures for patentability and market application. Conduct market research to find potential partners for university technologies and develop marketing strategies, applying highly technical knowledge to the area of specialization. Prepare non-confidential summaries / marketing summaries of technologies to present to potential partners. Assist with deal valuation and preparation of term sheets for licensing discussions. Participate in licensing negotiations. Plan and coordinate the work of the interns. Submit project results to the director. Perform related duties as required. Participate in technical conferences and networking events.

Essential Functions
  • Work with interns and licensing manager to assess disclosed technology, potential for market acceptance, market size, relevant competitor companies, and potential licensees.
  • Prepare technology assessment documents.
  • Manage the creation of non-Confidential one page marketing summaries to promote inventions, which require understanding and articulating the novelty of the invention and its advantages over the state of the art.
  • Maintain I&C’s passive marketing channels, such as Flintbox and In-Part.
  • Work with licensing associate and invention manager to connect with key industry partners through marketing communications and networking events.
  • Assist licensing manager and director with valuation of licensing deals and preparation of term sheets.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science field (engineering, physical science, or life science) and five (5) years of knowledge and experience in intellectual property, management of processes and training of employees.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in science field (engineering, physical science, or life science) and/or business and one year in a university technology transfer office evaluating technologies for market potential; ability to understand and perform University intellectual property management processes.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and to build relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to internal and external stakeholders the novelty of a technology and the market opportunity it represents.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Travel to necessary conferences.
  • Remote work eligibility, two (2) days a week.
