Job summary

Cambrian College’s Schools of Skills Training seeks a Millwright technologist on a leave replacement basis, starting September 2026. You will plan, organize, and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities, provide technical expertise, and help design equipment to meet learning needs.

The role requires a 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright or 429A General Machinist journeyperson certificate, three years’ experience after apprenticeship, and proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Qualifications

• Certificate of Qualification as 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright or 429A General Machinist journeyperson.
• Three years of experience after completion of apprenticeship training.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work within a team and demonstrate initiative and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities including repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Provide technical expertise to faculty and students and guide lab activities.
• Design and develop equipment and systems to meet learning requirements.
• Evaluate equipment and resources and advise on purchase or repairs.
• Monitor budget and promote workplace safety in classroom settings.

Job description

Position Summary

Cambrian College’s Schools of Skills Training requires a Millwright technologist, on a leave replacement basis, beginning September 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities including repairs, preventive maintenance.
• Provide technical expertise of a specialized nature to faculty and students and determine the best services and methods required to meet user needs, and provide assistance and direction to students while in the lab.
• Design and develop equipment, systems, materials, etc., to meet students’ learning requirements.
• Evaluate equipment and other resources and make recommendations whether to purchase or repair.
• Control supply inventory and monitor budget in conjunction with the department coordinator.
• Promote and uphold a workplace safety standard and be an effective role model within the classroom.

Qualifications

Required:

• Certificate of Qualification as a 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright or 429A General Machinist journeyperson. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
• Three years of experience after completion of apprenticeship training.
• Working knowledge in Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work with clients.
• High degree of initiative, work-related flexibility, and creative problem-solving skills.
• The ability to advise and positively interact with students is important, as is the ability to work within a team environment.

Assets/Preferred:

• Postsecondary diploma in Millwright or General Machinist
• Experience working within a postsecondary environment.
• Teaching or hands‑on training experience.
