Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care in Memphis, TN seeks a Tele-Sitter to provide remote observation of selected patients to promote safety and respond quickly to concerns per policy. You will work under the supervision of a nurse manager and shift leader, performing duties as assigned within the tele-sitting program.

The role requires clear English communication, compassionate patient interaction, and the ability to sit for long periods while monitoring multiple patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; ability to communicate clearly in English in written, oral, and verbal formats.
• 1 year of healthcare experience involving direct, compassionate communication with patients and families.
• Ability to sit for long periods, focus, multi-task and observe multiple patients.
• Computer literacy and professional communication required.

Responsibilities

• Remotely observe multiple patients to identify safety-related behaviors.

Job Summary

Provides virtual observation of selected patients to promote and protect the patient’s safety as directed and in accordance with BMHCC policies and procedure. Performs other duties as assigned. Works under supervision of a nurse manager and under direct supervision of shift leader.

Responsibilities

• Remotely and continually observes multiple patients to identify behaviors that may be hazardous to the patient or others.
• Identifies safety concerns, documents safety‑related observations, and communicates the patient’s needs and concerns to nursing unit staff.
• Recognizes and verbally intervenes with the patient in a professional and compassionate manner to redirect behavior that could pose a threat to safety. Immediately alerts nursing staff when physical intervention is required.
• Accurately documents observations, interventions, and events in tele‑sitting software according to defined procedures.
• Participates in ongoing educational activities.
• Completes assigned goals.

Experience

Minimum Required:

• 1 year of experience in a healthcare role requiring direct, professional, and compassionate communication with patients and families (e.g., nursing home, skilled nursing facility, hospital, home care, phlebotomy, transport).

Education

Minimum Required:

• High‑school diploma or GED. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral, and verbal format. Skill to record information accurately and as necessary to perform job duties.

Preferred/Desired:

• Approved nursing, medical assistant, or other allied health course – preferred but not required.

Special Skills

Minimum Required:

• Ability to sit for long periods, focus, multi‑task, and observe multiple patients at one time.
• Computer literacy, critical thinking skills, assertive, organized, professional.
• Clear speaking voice over microphone.

Preferred/Desired:

• Bilingual/multilingual – desired but not required.
