Job summary

UAB St. Vincent's in Alabama is seeking a patient care-focused team member for the Med/Surg department. The role covers full-time night shifts (7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.) with opportunities for PRN rotations.

You will perform basic patient care, assist with mobility and activities of daily living, document findings, and support nursing staff with vitals and routine procedures.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High school diploma or equivalent or 1 year of job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and personal care as needed.
• Support patients in daily living activities and comforts.
• Report changes to nursing staff and document records.
• Maintain clean, orderly rooms and care for medical equipment.
• Assist with tasks like oxygen setup, catheter care, EKGs, and vitals.
• Record vitals, weights, intake and output accurately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
