Job summary

UAB St. Vincent's in Birmingham, AL seeks bedside support staff for Med Surg. Full-time evenings or part-time weekend days perform routine patient care under supervision, assist with mobility and daily living activities, and document patient conditions.

Requires BLS within 30 days and a high school diploma or equivalent, or 1 year of related experience. UAB St. Vincent's emphasizes teamwork and compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary and help them to rooms or bathrooms.
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes to nursing staff and document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and equipment organized.
• Perform technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Department: 6 Main, Med Surg

Schedule: Multiple Shifts

Full Time Evenings: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Monday-Friday

Part Time Days: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Every Saturday and Sunday)

Work Location: UAB St Vincent's Birmingham

What You Will Do

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

• Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Education: High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
