Job Summary

The Technician II – Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload, including adherence to company safety and quality standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface‑mount boxes correctly, adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
  • Build closets: mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware. Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections.
  • Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable, use volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits.
  • Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew: provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
  • Complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Be self‑motivated, professional, positive, and contribute to project process improvement.

  • Act as liaison with customer representatives.
  • Possess problem‑solving skills, critical thinking, read/write.
  • Work at heights, on ladder and confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather; have physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • See and distinguish colors, read small print, hear audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance mandatory.
  • Have adequate transportation to get to job site.
Tools
  • Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves.
  • Trade tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and ability to supervise others.
  • Proficient with listed tools.
  • Skill level to interpret blueprints and project documents (specifications, reporting, quality requirements).
  • Know universal communications color codes.
  • Meet company minimum driving standards.
Compensation
  • USD $25.00 per hour (minimum).
  • USD $30.00 per hour (maximum).
  • Sign‑On Bonus: $2,500.
