Job summary

CommScope in Catawba, NC is seeking a Technician II, Maintenance‑HVAC & Facilities to install, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment. The role emphasizes electrical/technical problem solving with PLCs, AC/DC drives, and motor controls.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, mechanical work, safety compliance, and supporting in‑house training while maintaining PM records. Availability: 5 days, 8am–4pm, 8‑hour shifts.

Qualifications

  • Requires 2 years of manufacturing experience with PLCs/HMIs/VFDs in process and automation equipment.
  • Requires 2 years of experience with AC/DC/VFD drives.
  • Must have good mechanical skills and an electrical certification.
  • Military experience will be considered in lieu of industrial experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED are required.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electro‑mechanical malfunctions using test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, PLC interface).
  • Work with machine and facility equipment including HVAC, pumps, and control systems.
  • Maintain and repair PLCs, drives, motors, and drive controls.
  • Read electrical drawings and schematics and ensure safety compliance (Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out).
  • Support training, parts inventory, and documentation of PMs.

Location: Catawba, North Carolina, United States, 28609

CommScope is looking for a Technician II, Maintenance‑HVAC & Facilities in our Catawba, NC maintenance department! This role is more electrical/technical in nature due to Equipment Installation problem solving and working with a variety of controls equipment.

Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, address, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of business unit goals and objectives. Responsible for maintaining, solving problems, and repairing PLCs, AC/DC Drives, and motor and drive controls. Also, the individual will participate in general maintenance duties of the equipment and facilities as advised by their supervisor.

Availability: 5 day, 8am-4pm, 8‑hour shifts

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair machine electro‑mechanical malfunctions utilizing appropriate test equipment to analyze problems and correct deficiencies (including multimeters, oscilloscopes, laptops and PLC interface).
  • Utilize mechanical equipment including lathes, mills, cutting and welding tools.
  • Work effectively with automation and instrumentation devices in support of engineering or other technicians.
  • Troubleshoot equipment motor and drive control issues.
  • Follow all proactive safety measures, including NEC, NFPA and other pertinent safety codes. Ensure safety procedures, such as Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, are always followed.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of production systems including, but not limited to, compound system, air compressors, pit water system, HVAC and chillers.
  • Must have a strong fundamental understanding of 3‑phase electrical systems, machine/motion control systems, electro‑mechanical systems, VFD and servo systems.
  • Assist in developing, coordinating and managing ongoing in‑house training programs.
  • Support the parts department by assisting with identifying and maintaining parts used on equipment and inventory of repair parts and manufacturing supplies.
  • Execute project assignments in a team‑based environment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate sound troubleshooting skills.
  • Maintain PM and records for all plant equipment.
  • Must be able to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Other general facilities and project duties as assigned.
  • Understand and follow the requirements of the EHS policy, standards and relevant facility and operations EHS procedures.
  • Perform assigned tasks, utilizing competencies obtained, to identify all OH&S risks and environmental impacts to which they are potentially exposed and mitigate exposure using defined controls.
  • Report EHS concerns immediately upon identification.
  • Communicate opportunities to improve EHS management system.
Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of demonstrated manufacturing experience working with PLCs/HMIs/VFDs controlling process and automation equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with AC/DC/VFD drives.
  • Good mechanical skill set.
  • Electrical certification.
  • Will consider military experience and training in lieu of industrial experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Experience
  • Allen Bradley ControlLogix, legacy PLC products, SLC and PLC5; Siemens S7 PLC.
  • Allen Bradley AC/DC drive products including Powerflex and Kinetix.
  • Associate degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Systems, Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration or related fields.
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics and/or Electrical Engineering Technologies.
