Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on light-duty vehicles, landscape equipment, attachments, and auxiliary equipment. Assist with and performs major repairs under minimal supervision. This position is part of the Technician, Automotive career progression series, which includes Technician II - Automotive, Technician III - Automotive, and Senior Technician - Automotive. An employee is eligible to advance to the next position within the series when the employee has met the criteria for advancement as notated within the job description and has received a recommendation from the Hiring Authority. Employment is subject to the terms, conditions, and policies detailed in the Personnel Policies Manual (PPM). This position requires regular in-person presence as an essential job function.
This classification does not have supervisory authority and requires no supervision or direction of others.
Receives intermittent supervision. This classification normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor is expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.
Duties are typically performed in a garage environment or in the field. May be exposed to hazardous materials, such as antifreeze, lubricants, solvents, corrosives, fuels, and vapors. Work may be performed in hazardous situations including close proximity to moving vehicles/equipment and traffic, recovering vehicles/equipment, and in adverse weather conditions. Work is performed with potentially dangerous equipment and tools. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Regular work schedule may include weekends. Responds to on-call after hours and El Paso County emergencies.
Additional Technician III: Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
