Job summary

Position Announcement

At Utah Valley University, the Key Shop Specialist plays an important role in supporting the safety, security, and daily operations of campus facilities. This position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of access control and key management systems while providing excellent service to students, employees, and campus departments. From coordinating key requests and maintaining records to assisting with locking systems and access management, the role combines technical responsibilities with customer service and administrative support in a collaborative university environment.

This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy detail‑oriented work, problem‑solving, and contributing to the smooth operation of a large organization. Working alongside experienced locksmith professionals, the Key Shop Specialist will gain valuable experience in access control technologies, security procedures, and facilities operations. Summary Of Responsibilities
  • Clerical functions, including organization, typing, receptionist duties, answering phones, filing, record keeping, taking messages, resolving problems, handling complaints, organizing, and generating reports and work orders.
  • Making and filing keys; programming and monitoring computer‑managed access devices on campus.
  • Administer access to doors, buildings, cabinets, equipment, and vehicles on campus.
  • Conducts key audits across campus.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree and one year of experience; OR any combination of education/experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.

  • Associate's degree + 1 year of related experience.
  • OR an associate's degree + 2 or more years of related experience.
  • OR 3 years of related work experience without a degree.
  • OR 1 year of college coursework + 2 years of related experience.
  • OR 2 years of college coursework (associate's degree not completed) + 1 year of related experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
  • Must be detail‑oriented and mechanically minded.
  • Familiar with the use of hand tools, low‑voltage electricity, and trade work.
  • Knowledge of basic computer systems and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Knowledge of key and card access software is a plus.
Skills
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Experience using hand tools, both power and manual.
  • Must have strong clerical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with door systems and electronic access control systems is a plus.
Abilities
  • Must be able to work with others as well as independently.
  • Able to work with a broad group of individuals.
  • Ability to work on low‑voltage electricity.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and customers, both verbally and in writing.
