Job summary

TRAX International Corporation seeks a Technician I to perform endurance and performance testing on military and commercial vehicles at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The role involves operating a range of test vehicles and equipment, and recording data with onboard systems.

Candidates must have CDL Class A with HazMat and a current DOT medical certification, plus basic computer skills and at least one year of relevant experience or training.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of applicable experience or completion of formal training.
  • Shall possess basic computer skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CDL Class A license with HazMat endorsement.
  • Must present a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Subject to pre-employment and ongoing MVR checks and drug screening.

Job Description

Performs a variety of tasks associated with all phases of endurance and performance testing of Military and Commercial vehicles and equipment.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Resolves problems, provides guidance, to include specific job techniques and safety considerations, and inspects completed work for quality and consistency.
  • Uses judgment and initiative to evaluate testing requirements to determine the best possible approach or action to take in non-routine situations and make recommendations to the Test Officer or Engineer.
  • Interprets, adapts, and enforces guidelines, including unwritten policies, precedents, and practices, that are not always completely applicable to changing situations.
  • Operates items in conditions such as rain, mud, snow, and dust and on a wide variety of surfaces, such as gravel, paved, Belgian block, slopes, and vertical walls.
  • Tasks support testing combat support vehicles, equipment systems, and related components.
  • Operates wheeled vehicles, tracked vehicles, engineering vehicles, special purpose vehicles, material handling equipment, bridge boats/floating bridges, amphibious vehicles, etc.
  • Operates tactical communication equipment.
  • Performs operator level maintenance, conducted both in the field and at various maintenance facilities, such as operator level preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) as well as any other operator level maintenance, in accordance with appropriate/approved guidance.
  • Configures vehicles with appropriate payloads and conducts general walk-around safety inspections of vehicles or equipment.
  • While assigned vehicles or equipment are being repaired or serviced, assists mechanics in performing a higher echelon of maintenance as required in accordance with appropriate/approved guidance or performs housekeeping.
  • Records test data on Electronic Maintenance Log.
  • Operates onboard computers, software, and other related technology.
  • Performs uploading and downloading procedures for software and computer applications and begins initial data manipulation and evaluation.
  • Reviews data for technical accuracy.
  • Installs and/or operates sensitive data collection instrumentation, vehicle system training simulators/devices, thermocouples, and pressure transducers necessary to collect, process, store, or obtain test related data in accordance with appropriate test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations.
  • Coordinates efforts to maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and appropriately document issues relating to electrical/electronic systems and components, communications equipment, instrumentation, and any like or related items when failures occur in accordance with the appropriate manuals and test objectives.
  • Performs periodic evaluations of testing and inspects equipment.
  • Identifies, documents, and communicates test related and/or abnormal conditions in an appropriate format and timely manner. Plans, coordinates, and provides on-the-job training, technical advice, and assistance to various Government agencies, peers, and subordinates as required.
  • Plans and coordinates development, analysis, and provision of technical input as required for documentation and training.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others.
  • Prepares data in designated formats.
  • Works, coordinates, and collaborates with others in a professional manner to accomplish testing, evaluation, operation, and maintenance of combat support vehicles and equipment.
  • Licensed to operate all test and support equipment relevant to duties.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Must have 1 year of applicable experience or completion of formal training
  • Shall possess basic computer skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, 25% of all levels
  • combined endorsed for Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and Tanke * Must present a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) issued by a certified medical provider listed on the National Register of Certified Medical Examiners * Subject to pre-employment and ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks to confirm a safe driving history * Must pass a DOT-compliant pre-employment drug screen and participate in an employer-administered drug and alcohol testing program, which includes:
  • - Random testing
  • - Post-accident testing
  • - Reasonable suspicion testing
  • - Return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable)
  • Must consent to a full query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse prior to hire, and to annual limited queries during employment *
  • Must report any CDL suspensions, disqualifications, or convictions for traffic violations in accordance with Federal regulations
  • Must know and follow state and federal commercial vehicle regulations enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Department of Transportation
Physical Qualifications
  • The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment
  • Must be capable of lifting 25 pounds unassisted
  • Must have good manual dexterity
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
