Job Description

Drives and operates vehicles and equipment that requires a Class A CDL to include tractor trailer combinations, utilizing a variety of semi-trailers to transport materials, merchandise, and equipment between various locations. Additional duties include driving buses up to 45 passengers, aircraft tow tractors, farm tractors, forklifts, pickup trucks, sedans, cargo and passenger vans, and tow trucks/recovery vehicles. Drive and operate a water truck and/or water trailer for preparation of the lift sites when needed. Load or unload trucks with or without helpers and secure loads to be transported. Makes minor operator level repairs and keeps equipment in good order. Performs daily and weekly PMCS, which includes inspecting vehicles for deficiencies, checking fluid levels, and maintaining logs to ensure vehicles are always mission ready. Drive military and commercial vehicles to transport troops and equipment in support of both YTC and Army Garrison operations. Performs vehicle recoveries including towing disabled vehicles. Coordinates daily operations, prepares and submits reports and trip tickets. Serves as a liaison with the GSA Service Center coordinating vehicles transfers to offsite vendors for warranty and repairs. Works directly with Heavy Equipment Operators. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education / Licenses / Certifications / Experience Requirements


  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without special restrictions and maintain for the duration of employment.

  • Must have HAZMAT, Tanker and Passenger endorsements.

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year continuous driving experience with heavy trucks (such as dump trucks or tractor-trailers), heavy equipment (such as bulldozers or excavators), and/or tactical military vehicles (such as armored personnel carriers).


Job Skills Requirements


  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of equipment-operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations and one whose competence in this skill has been demonstrated through training and experience.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to conduct basic operator-level maintenance, such as checking tire pressure, inspect braking systems, and servicing vehicle lights. Must demonstrate the ability to identify, correct, or report all vehicle deficiencies to the motor pool dispatcher or supervisor.

  • Must be capable of maintaining accurate records of driver mileage, trip tickets, and inspection sheets.


Physical Requirements


  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, DOT physical and periodic retests.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

  • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for the Maintenance Division.

  • Must be capable of climbing up and into large vehicles up to 10 feet high.

  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.

  • Must be capable of kneeling, bending and standing while performing rigging duties.

  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.

  • Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.


Additional Desirable Qualifications


  • Have current National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) CCO Rigger and Signalperson certification.


Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.

  • Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
