Schedule:
7-On/7-Off B week
5:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Training Schedule:
Tuesday - Friday
8:00 AM - 6:30 PM (with some weekends)
Training schedule is flexible

*Hourly rate is an estimate only, including shift differential for nights, evenings, or weekend shifts. Overall hourly rates will vary based on schedule.

**If you qualify for a higher technician level, the exact compensation will vary based on skills and experience.

Primary Purpose

The Technician I is in training to provide both technical and non-technical services in laboratory areas. Duties include data handling, specimen processing, performing select laboratory tests, communication, documentation, quality control, equipment maintenance, supply management, and minor troubleshooting.
Some college courses in biology or related sciences are preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Understand specimen collection, handling, and transport procedures.
  • Process, triage, route, and store specimens per departmental protocols.
  • Evaluate specimen acceptability and follow appropriate procedures for non-acceptable specimens.
  • Prepare, organize, and review specimens for testing, ensuring correct sample and patient identification.
  • Prepare reagents as per laboratory requirements within regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform selected tests as permitted by regulations.
  • Conduct and document quality control and assist with equipment maintenance within set parameters. Calibration is not performed by technicians.
  • Transmit or transcribe validated results; result validation is performed by Technologists.
  • Answer calls courteously and provide verified test results from the LIS to authorized individuals.
  • Proficient in laboratory computer applications.
  • Document cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Manage supplies and notify supervisors as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • Stay informed about procedural updates.
  • Perform all assigned duties efficiently.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Stooping, reaching, mobility within the lab, communication with team members.
  • Use of PPE in a biohazard environment, adherence to CDC and OSHA guidelines.
  • Compliance with ARUP policies.
  • Sedentary activity, fine motor skills, visual acuity, color perception.
