Job summary

Ziegler CAT in Altoona, PA is hiring a Diesel Technician to service Caterpillar heavy construction equipment at our location. Work schedule is Mon-Fri, 7am-3:30pm with occasional OT.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing equipment, documenting work orders, and maintaining safety. Requirements include a 2-year diesel technology degree or equivalent experience plus 2+ years of diesel repair. We offer competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or a High School diploma/GED with 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
• 2+ years of relevant diesel engine/equipment repair experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, components, electrical, and fuel systems; Caterpillar experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and repairs Caterpillar equipment including heavy construction gear.
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work safely at all times, following company policies and standards.
• Collaborate with other technicians and assist with troubleshooting repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and product knowledge.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 to $45.00 Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant’s location.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and repairs Caterpillar equipment including compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy construction equipment, compact equipment, aerial equipment and paving equipment
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or High school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience
• 2+ years of relevant diesel engine/equipment repair experience is preferred
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, components, electrical, and fuel systems; working on Caterpillar is a plus but not required
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers and team members
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
• Own mechanic tool set
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment

Minimum physical requirements

• Push/pull up to 50 lbs
• Lift/carry up to 60 lbs
• Lift bulky objects
• Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.
• Working Conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor.
• Noise level may be loud at times.
