Job summary

Ziegler CAT in Altoona, PA is hiring a full-time Diesel Truck Technician to perform complete tractor and trailer repairs, including engine, powertrain and chassis, in our shop.

You will diagnose and repair, document work orders, and collaborate with other technicians while following safety policies. A 2-year diesel tech degree or equivalent experience is required; CDL and ongoing training are preferred. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Two-year college degree in diesel technology or equivalent experience.
• Experience with truck and trailer engine, powertrain and chassis repair preferred.
• CDL license and strong communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complete tractor and trailer including engine, powertrain, and chassis.
• Document work orders accurately and timely to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work safely and follow company policies and procedures.

Ziegler CAT has an opening for a full-time Diesel Truck Technician to work on complete tractor and trailer repairs including truck engine, power train, and chassis in a shop environment at our Altoona branch. Hours: M-F, 7:30-4:00.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 to $45.00. Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant’s location. Along with competitive pay, full time positions are benefits eligible which includes:

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complete tractor and trailer including truck engine, power train, and chassis
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or High school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience
• 2+ years of relevant truck and trailer repair experience preferred (including engine, brakes, suspension, and alignment)
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Federal inspection knowledge preferred
• Able to drive equipment
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers and team members
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
• Own mechanic tool set
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment
• This role is deemed safety sensitive and requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test

Minimum physical requirements

• Push/pull up to 50 lbs
• Lift/carry up to 60 lbs
• Lift bulky objects
• Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.
• Working Conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor.
• Noise level may be loud at times.
