Job summary

Ziegler CAT is hiring a Field Service Diesel Technician for our Altoona location to service heavy construction equipment. You will diagnose and repair Caterpillar machinery in the field, with a company truck provided and after-hour call duties possible.

The role requires 3+ years of diesel experience, hydraulics/electrical knowledge, and a valid driving record; DOT screening may be required. We offer comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college or equivalent in diesel technology.
• 3+ years of diesel equipment repair experience, preferably in the field.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, engine and emission components, electrical and fuel systems.
• Clean driving record; able to respond to after-hours calls.
• DOT pre-employment drug screen and DOT Medical card may be required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Caterpillar equipment including heavy construction machines.
• Utilize independent judgment to repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems.
• Work safely and follow company policies and standards.
• Respond to customer needs promptly to maximize value of work performed.
• Willing to respond to after-hours emergency calls as directed by supervisor.
• Document work orders completely and timely for customer satisfaction.

The pay range for this position is $38.00 to $51.00

Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant’s location. Along with competitive pay, full time positions are benefits eligible which includes:

Responsibilities:

• Diagnoses and repairs Caterpillar equipment including compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy construction equipment, compact equipment, aerial equipment and paving equipment
• Uses a high degree of independent judgment to repair a variety of complex equipment and tools, which involve mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
• Responds to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed
• Willing to respond to after hour emergency calls as directed by supervisor
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction

Qualifications:

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or high school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanicexperience
• 3+ years of relevantdiesel equipment repair experience, preferably field experience
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, engine and emission components, electrical, and fuel systems; previous experience with CAT equipment preferred
• Ability to write and communicate effectively, interact with supervisors, customers and team members
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
• Own mechanic tool set
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment including service truck
• Willing and able to respond to after-hour emergency calls as directed by the supervisor
• Able to operate equipment safely
• Must have and maintain a clean driving record
• Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen & physical due to the role being deemed safety-sensitive
• DOT Med card or ability to obtain is required

Minimum Physical Requirements:

• Push/pull up to 50 lbs

• Lift/carry up to 60 lbs

• Lift bulky objects

• Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.

• Working Conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor. Noise level may be loud at times.
