Job summary

Walmart in Sarasota, FL is seeking an experienced Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration to install, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial settings. You will interpret schematics, diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support safe, compliant operations across facilities.

As a lead on field teams, you will mentor technicians, schedule service calls, document work orders, and coordinate with external providers while adhering to safety

Qualifications

• HVAC/R certification and 2+ years in maintenance or construction for commercial HVAC/R.
• EPA 608 certification (Type I/II or Universal).
• Experience reading schematics and building codes.
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.

The (USA) Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration, is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial settings. This role involves interpreting technical schematics, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Technician performs preventive maintenance, manages refrigerant handling, and leads field teams while supporting operational efficiency. Effective communication with customers and collaboration with management are essential. The position requires adherence to safety protocols, use of specialized equipment, and participation in on-call rotations to support critical business needs.

What you'll do

• Install, configure, and calibrate HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration units, walk-ins, reach-ins, and rack systems to ensure optimal operation.
• Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R regulations and safety standards.
• Lead and mentor field teams, providing technical guidance and promoting safe work practices.
• Manage service calls, coordinate with external providers, and maintain accurate documentation and inventory records.
• Operate company vehicles safely to complete service assignments within assigned regions.

What you'll bring

• Proven experience installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork and control panels.
• Ability to interpret layout plans and schematics to ensure compliance with building codes and operational specifications.
• Skilled in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial environments.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring technicians on technical and safety procedures.
• Strong communication skills to effectively explain technical issues and service outcomes.
• Capability to manage service calls, use digital scheduling tools, and maintain accurate documentation.

The hourly wage range for this position is $29.00 - $58.00* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

• Option 1: Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
• Option 2: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
• Hold and maintains Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
• Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.

• Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years. Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years. No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years. No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
