Job summary

Custom Computer Specialists is seeking a detail-oriented IT Technician to support the lifecycle management of end-user devices. You will coordinate staging, deployment, and retirement of equipment, maintain accurate inventory, and assist engineering teams on technology refresh projects.

The role requires 1–2 years of relevant experience, Windows know-how, and the ability to lift equipment. Travel across NYC boroughs and to HQ in Long Island is required; a valid license and reliable

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical training in IT/electronics/networking preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience supporting computer hardware deployments, asset management, or tech refresh projects.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and computer hardware.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accurate inventory records.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to lift 10 pounds+ and travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate enterprise technology refresh and end-of-life replacement projects for switches, access points, cables, and other endpoints.
  • Stage, configure, tag assets, test, and prepare equipment for deployment.
  • Deploy replacement equipment and recover retired devices with minimal disruption.
  • Assist with inventory audits and warehouse organization.
  • Provide Day 2 support after deployments by helping end users with minor issues.
  • Coordinate receipt, inspection, and inventory of equipment at each location.

The Technician is responsible for supporting the organization’s technology lifecycle management program by coordinating the replacement, deployment, recovery, and retirement of end-user computing devices and related technology assets. This role ensures equipment is properly staged, deployed, inventoried, recovered, and decommissioned while maintaining accurate asset records and minimizing disruption to organizational operations.

This position is ideal for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build a career in IT operations and endpoint management. The successful candidate will gain hands‑on experience with enterprise device deployments, asset lifecycle management, endpoint management solutions, and technology refresh initiatives while receiving mentorship and opportunities for professional growth.

This position supports multiple technology projects and operational initiatives. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, device distribution, equipment staging and kiosk assembly, wireless access point configuration, asset management, and processing of end-of-life technology equipment in the warehouse at HQ.

Travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City and reporting to Long Island HQ is required. Role can change to reporting to HQ only.

Work Schedule

The standard work schedule for this position is 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM to support project implementation and operational requirements. During school district breaks, summer months, or as required to support business and project needs, the work schedule will transition to 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and reporting to HQ.

Employees are expected to maintain a flexible work schedule and may be required to adjust their hours based on project timelines, operational priorities, maintenance windows, emergency response, or other business needs.

Responsibilities may include staging and configuration in the configuration center, distribution and other project initiatives based at HQ.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coordinate and perform enterprise technology refresh and end-of-life replacement projects for switches, access points, access control devices, cables, and other endpoint devices.
  • Stage, configure, asset tag, test, and prepare equipment for engineering team deployment.
  • Deploy replacement equipment and recover retired devices while minimizing disruption to users and site operations.
  • Perform, equipment setup, pre and post deployment verification to ensure devices are ready for production use.
  • Assist with inventory audits, equipment reconciliation, and warehouse organization.
  • Coordinate the receipt, inspection, and inventory of technology equipment refresh projects delivered at each location.
  • Provide Day 2 support following network and technology refresh deployments by assisting end users with minor technical issues.
  • Coordinate the collection and return of end-of-life (EOL) equipment from school staging areas, working with delivery vendors to ensure all retired devices are transported to HQ for inventory and processing.
  • Coordinate the secure collection, storage, and disposition of retired equipment in accordance with organizational security and environmental policies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, asset assignments, serial numbers, warranty information, and lifecycle documentation.
  • Travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City and HQ located in Long Island.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Associate’s degree or technical training in Information Technology, Electronics, Networking, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience supporting computer hardware deployments, asset management, or technology refresh projects.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and computer hardware.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory and asset records.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds or more and transport equipment and safely use ladders when required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Office Suite with concentration in Excel.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+ .
