Job summary

New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM seeks a Technician Assistant Aide to provide end-user IT support in a professional, customer-focused manner. The role includes cross-training across the department and may require evenings and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities cover hardware/software support, creating documentation, assisting with the Help Desk and AV services, and delivering training materials.

Qualifications

  • College student at NMHU enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some clerical/office experience.

Responsibilities

  • End User Support – provides end-user support of NMHU technology equipment including technical and functional use of equipment and software, provides communications and updates both during and through work order closure.
  • Technical support – provides hardware and software support including installation, operation, monitoring, crewing, maintenance, problem analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and documentation.
  • Administrative Duties – attends meetings, creates and updates documentation, departmental and team processes, updates functional databases, and updates and maintains calendars and schedules as required.
  • Working with the ITS Service Management System – uses, updates, and maintains work orders in the IT Service Management System in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Provides Level 1 & 2 technical support.
  • Develops training material, and provides training to end-users.
  • Crews classes and meetings hosted on Zoom.
  • Assists with routing calls for the University Switchboard.
  • Assists with lab coverage in the Purple Pub computer lab.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Technician Assistant Aide will be cross-trained in multiple areas of the department and assigned according to department needs. Job may require evening and weekend shift work.

General Job Description

Specific Duties
  • End User Support – provides end-user support of NMHU technology equipment including technical and functional use of equipment and software, provides communications and updates both during and through work order closure.
  • Technical support – provides hardware and software support including installation, operation, monitoring, crewing, maintenance, problem analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and documentation.
  • Administrative Duties – attends meetings, creates and updates documentation, departmental and team processes, updates functional databases, and updates and maintains calendars and schedules as required.

  • Handles confidential information with discretion.
  • Ongoing Professional Development – attends institutional and departmental training, attends departmental cross-training, attends product demos, and reads professional journals to keep informed of technology enhancements.
  • Provides technology support at Help Desk, AV Support, and other areas of the department.
  • Develops training material, and provides training to end-users.
  • Crews classes and meetings hosted on Zoom.
  • Assists with routing calls for the University Switchboard.
  • Assists with lab coverage in the Purple Pub computer lab.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • College student at NMHU enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Some clerical/office experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining classroom technology equipment.
  • Experience providing technical customer service, in person, and by phone and email.
  • Experience using Windows and Mac OS.
  • Experience using Brightspace and ZOOM.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be proactive.
  • Experience troubleshooting common audio visual and/or computer problems.
