Job summary

Palm Tran is seeking skilled mechanics to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on transit buses and support vehicles in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Work includes engine adjustments, braking, steering, electrical/hydraulic components, with training provided by a Maintenance Trainer or Supervisor.

Entry wage starts at $29.56/hour, rising to $35.50/hour after successful in-house training. CDL is required; Air Conditioning Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent recognized certification/GED required.
• Two (2) years of related mechanical experience is required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida CDL Class A or B with Passenger endorsement.
• A copy of the applicant’s current valid Florida CDL must be included with the application.
• Applicants must obtain Air Conditioning Certification (608/609) within ninety (90) days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on transit buses, mechanical equipment and support vehicles (gasoline and diesel).
• Inspect vehicle deficiencies through work orders or the preventative maintenance process under supervision.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Trainer/Technician or Maintenance Supervisor to ensure safety and reliability of equipment.

The incumbent in this position performs preventive maintenance and repairs on transit buses, mechanical equipment and support vehicles (both gasoline and diesel powered), including but not limited to engine adjustment, braking systems, steering/suspension systems, electrical/hydraulic parts and associated components; examines maintenance repairs on related equipment to company and/or manufactures' guidelines to preserve the safety and reliability of set equipment. This is accomplished by working alongside a Maintenance Trainer, Maintenance Technician or at the direction of a Maintenance Supervisor as they complete inspections for vehicle deficiencies through work order or the preventative maintenance process.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A or B, with Passenger (P) endorsement. Applicants must obtain Air Conditioning Certification (608/609) within ninety (90) days of employment.

PREFERENCES

Heavy-duty vehicle mechanic experience including electrical systems, air conditioning experience, and public transportation experience. Experience driving transit buses or heavy equipment is preferred.
