Job summary

ParaTransit is seeking a Mechanic B/C Tech to support the safe operation of our transit system. The role requires hands-on work on buses, strong diagnostic abilities, and experience with diagnostic computer equipment.

A high school diploma and technical experience are preferred, with on-site responsibilities in a 24/7 environment. The candidate should demonstrate a safety-first mindset, be comfortable working with schematics, and possess good communication skills for documenting solutions and

Responsibilities

  • Inspect/ diagnose / repair / replace brake systems, fuel and emission systems, drivelines, steering and suspension systems, passenger heating/cooling systems, etc. to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments, HVAC recovery equipment, and computer programs like Cummins Insite and Allison DOC.

  • Perform routine preventativemaintenance inspections and procedures such as changing oil and filters,lubricating steering, suspension and brake components, batterymaintenance, compressed natural gas tank inspections, etc.
  • Testdrive/operate light duty vehicles, trucks, buses and support equipment todiagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Inspect, adjust, repair and replace protective guards,loose components, and specified safety devices.
  • Vehiclechassis alignments.
  • Replace,repair, and perform routine maintenance on internal combustion engines toinclude gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel in addition totransmissions and differential units.
  • Repairand adjust seats, doors, and windows, interior and exterior trim and hardware. Install, diagnoseand repair/replace vehicle accessories.
  • Emissionrelated diagnosis and repairs.
  • Performsservice calls on vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists in training of lower-level personnel
  • Performsbackfill supervisory duties as required

Education Requirement

Education
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimumof one-two yearsof vocational/technical schooling or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience:Available classifications (shown below) based upon collective bargainingagreements.
  • LevelC: Hiring Level.
  • LevelB: Must hold and maintain three ASE Truckor Transit Bus along with 608/609 Air Conditioning Certification and threeyears of verifiable experience in heavy duty diesel bus or truck.
  • LevelA: Must hold and maintain four ASE Truck or Transit Buscertifications, one of which must be test T6 or H6 electrical, along with608/609 Air Conditioning Certification and four years of verifiableexperience in heavy duty diesel bus or truck.
  • Master:Must hold and maintain ASE Certified Master Truck orTransit certification, 608/609 Air Conditioning Certification, and theability to demonstrate proficiency in arc, mig and gaswelding along with five years of verifiable experience in heavy dutydiesel bus.
  • ComputerSkills Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new programs as required.
  • Certificates& Licenses All positions require avalidCommercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B with endorsements. Seeexperience and qualifications for necessary licenses and certifications.
  • OtherRequirements Must provide own hand tools as necessary toperform the assigned work.
  • Mustpass Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drugscreening.

Pay Rate: $22.00/HR - $27.00/HR
