Job summary

Planned Systems International is seeking a Technical Writer to support the VA IETSS TPQI team, developing and maintaining technical publications, templates, and training materials.

The role requires collaboration with SMEs, editors, and VA staff, with proficiency in Word, Visio, SharePoint, and AI-enabled processes to produce clear, accurate documentation in a fast-paced government contracting environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field with 3–5 years of technical writing/communications experience.
  • Experience interviewing SMEs to gather technical details.
  • Experience creating technical manuals and quick reference guides.
  • Proficiency with CMS, Microsoft Style, VA style.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; editing/proofreading at all levels.
  • Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas.
  • Experience with AI tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a technical edit for QA of all documentation prior to delivery to the customer.
  • Create and implement consistent writing templates and documentation style for all technical publications.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs.
  • Analyze team processes to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented.
  • Ensure technical documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Combine, edit, format, and finalize the monthly progress report.
  • Participate in the review process.
  • Create, edit, and maintain training material, brown bags, instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date.
  • Provide a high level of customer service by adopting the customer’s mission and working towards success.
  • Transcribe Meeting Minutes from recordings.
  • Working with AI to improve these functions.
