Job summary

McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking a Technical Writer to support maintenance and publications for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport. The candidate will join a cross-functional team responsible for revising and distributing technical documentation to the United States Navy, with strict attention to detail.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree and eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance, plus experience with HTML/XML, S1000D, Arbortext, and Adobe/Microsoft

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
• Proficient with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft 365.
• Experience with HTML/XML and/or S1000D.
• Experience with Arbortext and Microsoft Expressions.
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Experience with DoD maintenance or publications.
• Ability to learn new tools quickly.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Support updates and operations of proprietary software used to create interactive weapon maintenance procedures.
• Maintain and distribute technical documentation through an access-controlled document management system.
• Assist in migration of the current technical manual library to XML/S1000D standards.
• Edit and proof technical documentation to support changes while following DoD standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to write and distribute manuals.
• Participate in bi-weekly Document Review Boards and provide feedback on changes.
