Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Eligible for DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience with HTML/XML and S1000D.
  • Proficiency in Arbortext and Microsoft Expressions.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience with DoD maintenance or publications.
  • Detail-oriented with high accuracy.
  • Able to learn new tools quickly.

  • Support updates and operations of proprietary software to create interactive weapon maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain and distribute technical documentation via an access-controlled document management system.
  • Support conversion of the current manual library to the Navy XML/S1000D standard.
  • Edit and proofread documentation to support change requests and DoD standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians and subject matter experts to write, edit and distribute manuals.
  • Attend bi-weekly Document Review Boards and generate redline packets for approved changes.

Job description

McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking a Technical Writer to support the Maintenance and Process Publications functional area in the Fleet Engineering Branch at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport. The candidate will be part of a cross functional team responsible for managing, revising, and distributing technical documentation to the United States Navy. Due to the complex subject matter of the documentation, strict attention to detail is required. The candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule driven environment, and be able to handle multiple projects with variable outcomes.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the updates and operations of proprietary software used to create interactive weapon maintenance procedures
  • Maintaining and distributing technical documentation through an access controlled document management system
  • Supporting the conversion and migration of the current technical manual library from desktop publishing software to the Navy standard of XML/S1000D
  • Editing and proofing technical documentation to support change requests and revisions while ensuring all DoD and Military standards are followed
  • Collaborating with engineers, technicians and subject matter experts to write, edit and distribute technical manuals
  • Attending bi-weekly Document Review Boards to support the entire document change process including providing Publications feedback on change requests and generating redline packets from approved changes
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
