Job Summary
The DLCP Technical Writer Journeyman is responsible for developing, reviewing, editing, and maintaining clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that supports agency operations, business processes, and communications. This role ensures all content is consistent, well-organized, compliant with agency standards, and effectively communicates complex information to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Create, review, edit, and update agency website content to ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and alignment with branding standards.
- Draft, revise, and maintain website text, announcements, newsletters, guidance documents, and other communications.
- Edit and proofread written materials for grammar, punctuation, clarity, tone, and formatting.
- Review, update, and standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other operational documentation.
- Format documents, reports, manuals, presentations, and correspondence for internal and external distribution.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and program staff to translate technical or complex information into clear, concise content.
- Ensure compliance with agency style guides, document control procedures, and policies.
- Maintain document version control and support organization of agency documentation.
- Recommend improvements to documentation processes, templates, and writing standards to promote consistency and efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, or a related field (or relevant experience).
- 1 to 6 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, communications, or document management.
- Experience editing website content and technical or administrative documentation.
- Experience developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Excellent written, verbal, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Experience using content management systems (CMS) for website updates.
- Experience working in a government or public sector environment.
- Knowledge of plain language principles and web accessibility standards.
- Familiarity with document management systems and agency records management practices.
