Job summary

Hach seeks a Technical Writer for on-site work in USA - Loveland to design, develop, and manage labeling documents, manuals and user guides. You’ll structure content for multiple media, maintain documentation systems, and ensure ISO-aligned quality across global outputs.

You will coordinate with Product Management, R&D and other teams to deliver multilingual content in 32+ languages, and you will update legacy materials to modern structured formats.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Technical Communication, science, technology or related field with 3 years of experience or at least 10 years in Technical Publication/Technical Communication.
• Knowledge of desktop publishing to create and manipulate new and existing documentation.
• Skilled in the use of DITA – XML and content management system.
• Skilled in the use of translation management systems.
• Ability to maintain and adapt XSL-FO files is a plus.
• Ability of illustrating complex technical concepts in easy-to-use illustrations is a plus.
• Experience in Solid Works, CorelDesigner, AdobeIllustrator is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Creates structured content to produce end-user installation, operation and maintenance manuals, user instructions, quickstart guides and online help.
• Develops content for delivery globally in 32+ languages and localization practices.
• Manages translation process with external vendors.
• Works with cross-functional teams to gather information and feedback.
• Updates unstructured legacy documentation and converts to structured topics.
• Manages daily work and on-time delivery of outputs.
• Prepares documentation for production and proofreads final PDFs.

ReportingtotheManagerTechnicalPublications, theTechnical Writeris responsible for designing, developing, formatting, implementing and managing technical writing and content creation, to meet the demands for the production of labeling documents, manuals, testing procedures and operational specifications, including the creation and maintenance of documentation and illustration for hardware and software user’s guides, service and programming manuals and electronic media including on-line help. Manages revisions of technical documentation and delivery ofglobal labeling and content. The function may include configuration and maintenance of content and translation management systems. Ensures integrity of data and document use, which may include customer data and quality and regulatory data following ISO standards to internal quality and production standards. Inthisrole, atypicaldaywilllooklike:

• Createsstructuredcontenttoproduceend-userinstallation,operationandmaintenancemanuals,userinstructions,quickstart/quickreferenceguides,analyticalproceduresand onlinehelp.Appliesreusestrategiesand modularwritingdesigntosingle-sourcecontenttoourcustomersasdifferentmedia (web,print).

• Developscontentthatcan bedeliveredgloballyandinto32+languages. Has a generalunderstandingandcontinuedlearningofhowtodevelopinformationforlocalizationwhichincludesusingSimplifiedTechnicalEnglish rules andguidelines, Global VisualDesignStandardsandLocalizationBestPractices.

• Managescompletetranslationprocesswithexternalvendorsfromscopingtodeliveringtranslateddocuments.

• Obtains, defines, andinterpretsinformationandworksdirectlywithcross-functional, globalproductdevelopmentteams(ProductMgmt, ProjectMgmt, R&D, etc.) andcustomerfeedbacktoassistinthedevelopmentofend-userdocumentationpackages.Informationisobtainedbyproductknowledgetransfer, interviews,usabilitytesting,dailymanagementmeetingsand email/phonecommunication.

• Recognizesanddemonstratesimprovementstothequalityofdocumentationbasedonfeedbackfrominternalandexternalcustomersbysolicitingfeedbackandtestingdocumentationforusability,accuracyandvalidity.

• UpdatesunstructuredFrameMakerlegacydocumentationandconvertsunstructuredbookstostructuredtopicsandmaps.

• Managesowndailywork,projectassignmentsandon-timedeliveryofoutputdeliverables.

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 USD per year.This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
