DTS seeks a Technical Writer to support the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Office of the Chief of Staff. The role develops, edits, and maintains a variety of communications products to ensure clear messaging across audiences and alignment with agency priorities.

Responsibilities include executive task management, drafting memos and background briefs, and maintaining templates and desk guides.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of technical writing and editing experience on policy directives, concepts of operations, policy guides and SOPs.
  • Active Secret Clearance required.
  • Bachelor's/Master's in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, communications or public affairs, English, journalism, creative writing, technical writing, business and administration etc.)
  • Experience writing communications for executive senior leadership.
  • Proficient in MS Office and JIRA.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities and deliverables related to executive task management and coordination.
  • Logging, assigning, tracking, and monitoring executive tasks, congressional inquiries, and internal programmatic action items using the agency’s official task management systems.
  • Overseeing action milestones and following up with action officers for timely, high-quality submissions.
  • Gatekeeping incoming and outgoing packages, verifying that all required components, concurrences, and technical materials are complete prior to submission to senior leadership.
  • Coordinating with program managers, component heads, and administrative staff to resolve writing discrepancies before final sign-off.
  • Drafting and finalizing executive correspondence packages, including memos, formal letters, and background briefs.
  • Developing response templates and desk guides outlining end-to-end task-tracking workflows.
  • Preparing weekly audit logs to document edited or drafted materials.
  • Ensure accuracy and responsiveness of all deliverables.

Description


We are seeking a Technical Writer to support the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Office of the Chief of Staff (OCoS). This position is responsible for providing communications support that ensures alignment and coordination of internal and external stakeholder engagements with the agency's current mission, priorities, and strategic objectives. The Technical Writer will develop, edit, and maintain a variety of communications products, ensuring clear, consistent, and effective messaging across all audiences.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsibilities and deliverables related to executive task management and coordination.

  • Logging, assigning, tracking, and monitoring executive tasks, congressional inquiries, and internal programmatic action items using the agency’s official task management systems, to ensure thorough attention to each item.

  • Overseeing action milestones and proactively following up with action officers for timely, high-quality submissions.

  • Serving as the formal gatekeeper for incoming and outgoing packages, verifying that all required components, concurrences, and technical materials are complete prior to submission to senior leadership.

  • Evaluating incoming correspondence to determine the most appropriate internal routing, based on departmental expertise and leadership priorities.

  • Coordinating directly with program managers, component heads, and administrative staff to deconflict assignments and resolve writing or editing discrepancies before final sign-off.

  • Drafting and finalizing executive correspondence packages, including memos, formal letters, and background briefs.

  • Developing specialized response templates and desk guides outlining end-to-end task-tracking workflows.

  • Preparing weekly audit logs to document edited or drafted materials and verifying quality control checks for finalized and closed actions.

  • Exercise critical thinking when reviewing documentation and task updates to ensure every deliverable meets our high standards for accuracy and responsiveness.


The salary for this position is between $115,000 - $135,000.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must have an active Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, communications or public affairs, English, journalism, creative writing, technical writing, business and administration etc.)

  • A minimum of 10 years of technical writing and editing experience on policy directives, concepts of operations, policy guides and SOPs.

  • Experience using the CISA House Style Guide and CISA Writing Style Guide.

  • Experience writing communications for executive senior leadership.

  • Experience with creating and maintaining government records associated with cybersecurity activities, documentation, and SOPs.

  • Proven ability to distill complex information into clear, concise text.

  • Coding and configuration in JIRA

  • Data extraction and analysis

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity communications language and subject matter (preferred).

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook, Power BI

  • Excellent written and oral communication, risk-management, and problem-solving skills.


Physical Demands:



  • Work is performed in an office environment. Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone. Required to use a computer throughout the work.
