Job summary

Corning Inc. is seeking a technically credible engineer to build a training capability from the ground up within the Cable Technology organization in Hickory, NC. The role offers a clear path into a Senior Development Engineer position as the training function matures.

You will design onboarding and skill-up curricula, work with SMEs to codify plant knowledge, and establish competency assessments across the engineering team. Travel to NC sites is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related field)
• 5+ years of professional experience in cable manufacturing with hands-on knowledge of plant systems, equipment and manufacturing software
• Ability to build structured training or technical content from the ground up without an existing department
• Proficiency in DMAIC and structured problem-solving methodologies
• Strong technical writing and content development skills
• Working knowledge of statistical and data systems used to analyze manufacturing performance and identify skill gaps
• Familiarity with risk management principles as applied to manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy a structured onboarding program and skill-up curriculum for Cable Technology engineering staff across Hickory-area manufacturing sites
• Partner with SMEs to capture and codify plant process, equipment, and manufacturing knowledge into structured content
• Establish a competency and skills assessment process to identify and prioritize training needs across the engineering organization
• Deliver hands-on training using real manufacturing processes, equipment, tools, and plant software; travel between NC Cable Manufacturing sites as needed
• Track program effectiveness, refine content based on feedback, report outcomes to leadership, and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions for training content; manage external training vendor relationships where applicable
