Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas seeks a Technical Support Specialist II to provide routine and advanced technical support to faculty and staff in Ophthalmology. The role focuses on desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, software, and networking, ensuring security standards and 100% on-site work readiness.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supports end-user computing experience including hardware/software, printers, copiers, scanners, audio visual, mobile devices.
• Diagnose and repair routine and complex end-user problems; escalate as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on end-user devices and peripherals.
• Manage lifecycle of end-user devices including deployment and decommissioning.
• After-hours Service Desk support as needed.
• Advise customers on technology needs and provide costs/vendor quotes.
• Coordinate with Information Resources and vendors to ensure smooth IT operations.

Job Summary

Works under minimal supervision to provide routine technical assistance to UT Southwestern faculty and staff with respect to personal computing hardware and software, computer networking, and/or telecommunications. The Technical Support Specialist II provides advanced technical support to faculty and staff within the Department of Ophthalmology. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and supporting desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, peripherals, software, networking, and telecommunications systems while ensuring compliance with UT Southwestern Information Security standards. This position is 100% onsite and requires a dependable, customer-focused professional with strong troubleshooting skills, a solid work ethic, and flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, move, and set up computer hardware and related equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Equipment may include monitors, desktop CPUs, printers, docking stations, and other technology devices. The employee must be able to transport, install, and relocate equipment as needed to support departmental operations.

Required

Experience and Education

• Education High School Diploma or equivalent.


• Experience

4 Years Related Experience Required.

Additional coursework in a related field, such as computer science, management information systems, etc. may be considered on a year for year basis in lieu of stated minimum experience.

• Licenses and Certifications If area of employment requires use of a University-owned vehicle, employee will be required to possess a valid Texas Drivers License, pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check, and complete drivers training (or van training, if applicable), in accordance with UTS Policy 157, appendix B within 30 Days

Preferred

• Education Associate's Degree in related field, or Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Job Duties

• Supports the full end user computing experience to include computer hardware/software, printers, copiers, scanners, audio visual, mobile devices, etc...


• Diagnose and repair routine & complex end user problems to remediation independently or by escalating to senior technical staff or other teams.


• Performs preventative maintenance of end user devices and associated peripherals.


• Lifecycle management of end user devices to include deployment and decommissioning of assets.


• After hours staff will work the Service Desk role as needed.


• Advise customers regarding their technology needs and provide the associated costs and vendor quotes.


• Liaison between customer and Information Resources, partner organizations, or vendors to ensure the efficient operation of the end user computing environment.


• Performs other duties as assigned
