Long Beach City College seeks a Technical Support Specialist to maintain and support district computer systems, networks and devices. The role involves installing and configuring servers and workstations, and delivering second-level technical support for IT customers.
Bachelor’s degree in IT/CS/MIS and 1 year of customer support experience are required. Candidates may be placed on an eligibility list for 12 months, with a full-time, 40-hour workweek schedule at campus locations.

The Information Technology Services Department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our Technical Support Specialist! These incumbents will perform routine to complex and responsible systems and network maintenance and support functions for District computers, networks and devices; installs and configures servers, workstations and other devices. We are looking for someone who has experience in providing second-level problem resolution and technical support services to information technology customers for the operation and use of personal computer and peripheral equipment, local and wide area networks, Internet and Intranet services and various server platform connections.
Additionally, we are looking for someone who has obtained a Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field; and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in providing customer support in an information systems operating environment similar in size and complexity to that of the District; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A limited number of candidates who best meet the needs of the District will be invited to continue in the examination process. It is important that your responses are clear and concise. Under general supervision, performs routine to complex and responsible systems and network maintenance and support functions for District computers, networks and devices; installs and configures servers, workstations and other devices; provides second-level problem resolution and technical support services to information technology customers for the operation and use of personal computer and peripheral equipment, local and wide area networks, Internet and Intranet services and various server platform connections; and performs related duties as assigned.
Technical Support Specialist is the entry-level professional class in the information technology user support class series. Incumbents provide a variety of routine to complex services to information technology customers intended to assist them in making effective use of computer hardware, standard and specialized software, peripheral equipment, devices and other technology tools to meet District operating and business requirements. Incumbents are expected to provide support and second-level problem resolution and technical support services with high reliability and a minimum of supervision and direction.
Technical Support Specialist is distinguished from Senior Technical Support Specialist in that incumbents in the latter class are responsible for performing the most complex workstation and network maintenance and support functions and provide third-level problem resolution and technical support services to information technology customers.

Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35 hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable.
May require a valid California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
