The Technical Writer will support the DoDEA Information Technology Division by developing, editing, organizing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation supporting IT and cybersecurity operations. This position will provide documentation and quality-assurance support for policies, IT Directives (ITODs), procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, service catalogs, and other technical materials.

The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with designated IT, cybersecurity, and functional subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure documentation is accurate, standardized, and aligned with applicable DoDEA and Department of Defense requirements. Technical accuracy, policy determinations, and final approval authority will remain with the appropriate SMEs and designated approving officials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, format, organize, and maintain policy and guidance documentation, including ITODs, Administrative Instructions (AIs), manuals, memoranda, procedural guides, regulations, and related technical materials.
  • Develop and maintain technical documents such as service catalogs, service-level agreements (SLAs), SOPs, cybersecurity policies and procedures, Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation, and other security-related materials.
  • Collaborate with designated IT, cybersecurity, and functional SMEs to collect source material, clarify technical content, and facilitate the review and validation of technical accuracy.
  • Ensure technical content and policy decisions are reviewed and approved by the appropriate SMEs and designated approving officials.
  • Establish and maintain consistent editorial, formatting, terminology, document-control, and quality-assurance standards across IT and cybersecurity documentation.
  • Organize technical content logically and clearly and coordinate document layout, structure, and presentation in accordance with approved outlines, templates, and specifications.
  • Develop architecture diagrams, process flows, illustrations, figures, and other visual materials in coordination with the appropriate technical SMEs to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain documentation within the designated authoritative repository and ensure appropriate version control, document lifecycle management, approval history, and records management requirements are followed.
  • Review documentation for clarity, consistency, grammar, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable project and organizational quality standards.
  • Handle sensitive IT and cybersecurity information in accordance with applicable security requirements, access controls, and need-to-know principles.
  • Support the preparation and submission of documentation and deliverables required by the Program Management Plan (PMP), including weekly and monthly reporting.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 0–2 years of experience in technical writing, communications, information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, drafting, editing, and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) documentation and processes.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accessible documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to develop process flows, architecture diagrams, and other technical illustrations in coordination with technical SMEs.
  • Strong written communication, editing, organizational, and quality-control skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and applicable documentation, diagramming, collaboration, and document-management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple documents, reviews, revisions, and deadlines while maintaining effective version control.
Clearance Requirements
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance or higher. Candidates without a minimum of a Secret clearance will not be considered.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and meet DoD ADP Level II requirements.
