Job Description

The purpose of the Geologist - Mining role is to collect, interpret, and generate geological information related to ore control safely and efficiently. The role involves controlling all geological definitions in the field, auditing operations, maintaining the integrity of block-outs, and supporting ore control with geological data, geological feature interpretation, and investigation of geological relationships with ore. The main duties include blasthole logging, pit mapping, muck characterization, geological modeling, and auditing mine activities. The role is 60% fieldwork and 40% office work.

  • Maintain an interpreted geological model for short-range planning through logging BHs, mapping muck material and walls, and using geological tools.
  • Manage geological software such as Vulcan and Leapfrog; familiarity with other geological or ore control software is recommended.
  • Audit and report on field practices related to sampling, drilling, and mining.
  • Identify, communicate, and participate in solving operational risks and substandard processes, including daily block-out checks.
  • Understand ore movement and dilution, proactively addressing operational restrictions and needs, and integrating team practices with Minestar routing and reporting.
  • Audit sampling methodologies and communicate results to the Senior Geologist.
  • Identify shortcomings in compliance processes and develop solutions within assigned units or disciplines.
  • Prepare reports and presentations as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
  • Work shift involves 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Work environment includes exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity in a surface mine setting.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmet, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, gloves, and protective clothing is mandatory.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of logging, mapping, interpreting, and ore control processes, and understanding geological implications for ore control.
  • 1 year experience in ore control preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology.
