How You’ll Make An Impact

The qualified paleontologist must possess expertise leading field monitoring operations, including providing taxonomic identification of fossils, writing technical reports, and CEQA/NEPA documents. The role may include additional work for qualified individuals, with wages based on experience and education.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead paleontological fieldwork throughout California
  • Prepare paleontological studies, reports, and plans
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members about regulatory requirements
  • Travel as needed and work cooperatively with team members
  • Provide at least two professional references
  • Possibly demonstrate laboratory and technical analysis expertise
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Paleontology preferred; B.A./B.S. in Geology or Biology acceptable
  • 5-10 years of management experience
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations including NEPA, CEQA, Section 106 of the NHPA
  • Knowledge of regional geology of Southern California
  • Ability to direct fossil recovery in the field
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and travel with a valid CA driver’s license
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions

Compensation is $36-$50 hourly, based on experience, with pre-employment testing required.

Working Conditions

Outdoor and office environments, including fieldwork in extreme weather and uneven terrain. Must meet physical demands such as working long hours on computers and attending meetings virtually or in person.
