Technical Sales Engineer - Paper Chemicals

Summary: The Technical Sales Engineer acts as the primary contact for customers, responsible for increasing and maintaining sales within their designated territory. They develop relationships with key decision-makers to ensure the success of customer-specific chemical projects. The role involves visiting customer sites to provide solutions, monitoring chemical applications, and reporting to meet customer needs. The engineer manages innovation, capability, and cost effectively.

Location: Home Office: Candidates must reside within their territory and travel daily to customer locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead sales activities including opportunity qualification, site surveys, testing, building customer relationships, proposing solutions, and evaluating results.
  • Handle physical tasks related to pulp and paper mill activities, such as maneuvering in tight spaces, transporting equipment and samples, and climbing structures in various climates.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, supporting and seeking support as needed.
  • Prioritize safety, compliance, and confidentiality in all activities.
  • Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement and skill development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or related field; preferred fields include Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • 5-20 years of progressive experience in technical sales or related engineering/technical roles within the paper or chemical industry.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and technical knowledge to meet sales objectives.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and highly energetic with integrity.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% as required.
