Job summary

Senior Metal Bellows is seeking a Technical Project Engineer to lead and coordinate engineering projects for custom metal bellows assemblies. You will work with design, manufacturing, quality, and sales teams to meet customer specs, quality, cost, and schedule targets.

The role requires a mechanical engineering degree with 3+ years of experience, strong project management, and DFMA expertise, in a fast-paced environment. On-site position in Massachusetts with competitive pay and benefits.

Job Description

The New Product Development team transforms customer requirements into robust, manufacturable products. From initial prototype through production launch, they ensure all customer needs are met while achieving quality, cost, and timeline targets. They own the critical handoff from inquiry to full-scale production, bridging the gap between customer expectations and manufacturing reality.

The Technical Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating engineering projects involving the design, development, manufacturing, and delivery of custom-engineered metal bellows assemblies. This role serves as the primary technical point of contact for assigned projects, ensuring they meet customer specifications and quality standards while collaborating closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and sales teams to deliver on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Planning and Management: Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource plans. Coordinate all technical activities across disciplines, including design, fabrication and testing. Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure milestones are met.
• Technical Design and Engineering Support: Review and interpret stakeholder requirements, specifications, and drawings. Work with design teams on structural analysis, pressure vessel design, fatigue life assessment, thermal analysis, and material selection for metal bellows and assemblies.
• Design for Manufacturability and Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles. Optimize designs for performance, quality, cost, and ease of production, incorporating feedback from prototyping and testing.
• Manufacturing Process Oversight: Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop and optimize production methods, including welding, assembly, and testing processes. Resolve manufacturing issues, implement process improvements, and ensure repeatability and reliability of precision components.
• Risk Management and Compliance: Identify technical risks and ensure compliance with stakeholder requirements. Support qualification testing, validation, and documentation for diverse applications.
• Customer and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the technical liaison with stakeholders, addressing inquiries, providing updates, and resolving issues. Work closely with sales, quality, and supply chain teams.
• Documentation: Prepare and maintain project documentation, including engineering reports, test plans and stakeholder deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Apply broad technical expertise to independently solve routine engineering problems and contribute to project deliverables.
• Handles moderately complex projects with some autonomy, requiring minimal guidance on standard tasks while escalating more difficult issues as needed.
• Assesses moderate technical and project risks, contributes to risk mitigation plans, and tracks risk status with some guidance.
• Offers technical guidance to junior technicians and engineers on standard tasks, helps with onboarding, and shares knowledge within the immediate team.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced project environment.

Salary Range

$90,000 - $110,000k annually

Final rate will be determined by relevant experience, skills, and qualifications
